Tracks of the Black Bear by Dale Wilson

Tracks of the Black Bear

by Dale Wilson and Gordon D Jomini

Algoma Central Railway logo

The railway with the Agawa Canyon Tour Train and a rich history of 'bush' railroading, the Algoma Central had its own distinct story with epic struggles and a very different history than Canadian Pacific or Canadian National.

The Algoma Central Railway is an ore, steel and forest products carrier, yet it is far more widely-known for its famous passenger train –the Algoma Canyon Tour.. Started in 1899 as a way to move iron ore from the newly-discovered iron ore deposit near Wawa Lake, this railroad eventually facilitated the expansion into Northern Ontario through to Hearst. This book is the authority on how it was before the Wisconsin Central and Canadian National Railway took over. Beautifully illustrated with clack and white as well as colour photos, the history is plainly put-forward, and easy to follow.
