Chartered in 1899, the Algoma Central was to have a main line 200 miles long from Sault Ste. Marie to join with the Canadian Pacific railway transcontinental line. It served mining properties, hauled lumber, steel and freight that fueled the expansion in the area between Hearst, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury. It still runs the famous Agawa Canyon rail tour.
