The Sudbury Streetcars
The Story of the Sudbury-Copper Cliff Surburban Electric Railway
by Jack Knowles and Dale Wilson
The Sudbury-Copper Cliff Surburban Electric Railway was incorporated in 1912 for the purpose of providing transportation for people and products in the fast-growing city of Sudbury. It serviced the mines by providing the workers reliable access to get to and from work, while minimizing the need for stables and barns to accomodate the otherwise unwieldy number of horses that would have otherwise been needed.
As the world's attention again turns to streetcars as a possible alternative for mass transit, this look into the past gives an interesting perspective on how it actually had all been done before.
