6077 ~ A Fine Locomotive
by
Dale Wilson
Canadian National Railways ordered twenty of these magnificent locomotives in 1944. They were the last steam powered locomotives bought by CNR. The 6077 is the only one left. They were easy to maintain, and contributed greaty to CNR's fortunes. This particular engine, the 6077, was saved from the scrapyard by an employee at the Winnipeg Strathcona railyard, and it has eventually made it's way to become the centerpiece at the Capreol Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre.
The 6077 was refurbished in 2008 by the Museum and its dedicated volunteers. This book traces the history of this unique specimen, and has extensive photos of the restoration as well.
