CWCC 2009 Book Awards

It begins earlier every year it seems. This is our seventh year doing the Contest Calendar, and it is more popular every year.
We were on target, and in some areas, even a bit ahead this year. Then we started discovering that the spam filters this year were generally not letting our update emails through to our contest sponsors. So we started phoning them all. And even then, we were all right, until my father passed away in October. Many thanks to all those who have understood faster than I have, that it takes more time than I thought to function closer to normal again.
And so we go on. We are still trying to track the entries from the previous years to give you an idea of how much competition there was. Sometimes the information was forthcoming, but this year, mostly it was not. So this year we have not included the previous year's entry figures, because we had so few of them. Many smaller contests, run by volunteers with little budget, are finding they have a harder time this year to keep things going. And some larger local writing groups have vanished, in that the website material is two or more years old, and the phones are not-in-service. Hopefully this is a temporary situation.
There have been all kinds of deadline date changes; I couldn't believe how many this year. So please, don't assume anything this year. Check for your contest, make sure it is still operating, and that the deadline is where you thought it would be. Then check again about a month before the deadline to confirm that there haven't been any other changes. And if there are, please send me an email, or a note to let us know.
The more places we can submit our work, the better we all become.
